About this test

7 min to complete
Available in EN, ES, RU

To get your driver’s license in Mississippi, you’ll first need to take a written knowledge exam to qualify for a permit. The written test has 30 multiple-choice questions based on the 2024 Mississippi Driver’s Manual. You’ll need to score an 80% or higher to pass the test, meaning you cannot miss more than six questions. Test questions will focus on various topics covered in the manual such as traffic signs, speed limits, safe driving practices including cell phone usage, and right of way. You’re required to hold a permit for 12 months before you can take your driving test if you’re under 17. For those 17 and older, you may choose to take the written and driving test on the same day, but you must pass the written test first. If you’re unable to pass the written knowledge test on the first try, you can take it again the next day; you may retake the test up to three times without consequence. If you require more than three attempts, you’ll have to wait a minimum of 30 days to retest. At the DPS, you’ll need to take a vision test, provide the appropriate paperwork, and pay the necessary fees, such as the $7 permit fee. Your license will cost between $9 and 24 depending on your age. If you’re still a minor, you will also need to provide a school attendance form and parental consent. This DPS practice test will help ensure you do well on your very first try.
